“Lift Every Voice” atop the Spreckels Temple of Music

James Weldon Johnson’s uplifting words from “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” the Black national Anthem, will be unveiled in a ceremony on Opening Night. The four-foot tall, illuminated letters will remain atop the bandshell for at least the next two years.

de Truth

Experience the power and beauty of eight lasers projecting poetry across the full 450-foot exterior of the de Young Museum. The scrolling poetry will debut on opening night of the Alterverse December 1.

Circle of Light

Artist Ollie Newth’s dazzling installation gleams brilliantly with 160 individual bars of moving light arranged in an open circle.

Initially the centerpiece exhibition of the 30th anniversary of the National AIDS Memorial Grove, the installation has  been relocated for The Alterverse and now welcomes visitors to Golden Gate Park near the JFK Drive entrance at Stanyan Street.

In “Circle of Light” the circle is not complete, representing the lives that have been lost to the epidemic.

Experience a special, one-night installation on December 3, honoring four of San Francisco Poet Laureates who died in the past year. Four laser canons trained towards the heavens will honor Diane Di Prima, Jack Hirschman, Lawrence Ferlinghetti and Janice Mirikitani

Exterior Lighting of the Conservatory of Flowers

At the Eastern edge of the Alterverse, experience the incredible funkadelic lighting of the facade of the iconic Conservatory of Flowers in Golden Gate Park. Originally created to highlight the park’s celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Summer of Love in 2017, the extraordinary lighting is set to vibrant music and continues nightly in the park.

SkyStar Wheel

Originally brought to San Francisco to celebrate the Golden Gate Park’s 150th anniversary, the SkyStar Wheel brings energy and awe to the Music Concourse. A ride in one of the gondola cars offers an unobstructed view of the entire Alterverse.

A must-see in Golden Gate Park, Entwined returns to Peacock Meadow on December 2 and will remain throughout the Alterverse. Created by outstanding light artist Charles Gadeken, Entwined creates a whimsical forest with larger-than-life illuminated features.
